A Comparative Study on the Physiques and Maximum Growth Age of the Youth Among Korea and Japan





Abstract
On the basis of the presented data which took boy and girl students as their subjects in Korea (1967, 1985) and Japan (1967, 1985), the author intended to compare and analyse the physique growth status by age and sex. For the purpose, this study had investigated the physical growths (body height and body weight) and maximum growth age of the two nations¢¥ students during September 1 in 1987 to April 30 in 1988 with the application of the medicals of Korea and Japan.
The results are as follows;
1. Body height (cm)
Compared to 1960¢¥s, the growth of body height in 1980¢¥s appeared better, and especially that of Korean students increased remarkbly. The increment of body height during 18 years for Korean students was 0.3-7.7cm in male and 0.9-4.8cm in female, and that for Japanese Students was 2.6-4.9cm in male and 2.8-4.5cm in female.
2. Body weight (kg)
Likely in case of body height, the growth of body weight in 1980¢¥s increased in both nations relatively to that in 1960¢¥s, especially that of Korean Students. Total increment of body weight during 18 years for Korean Students was 0.84-6.32kg in male and 0.73-4.08kg in female, and that for Japanese Students was 1.4-4.7kg in male and 1.2-3.4kg in female.
3. Comparison of manimum growth age
Maximum growth age of Korean and Japanese Students are as follows.
